Grading

While I love teaching, grading is just one of those things I can never look forward to for many reasons.  First, it is not fun looking at the same assignment over and over and over again.   Second, I would rather spend time with my boys than looking at those assignments.  But last week (yes I'm a little behind in my blogging) I caught the boys reading to each other while I finished up my grading.  It was a proud moment that I just had to share.  They are just such good boys!

Again

Michael correctly identified Saturn out his window again tonight.  That's 2 for him.

Unbelievable.

The Night Sky

As Michael was gazing out the window tonight, prolonging his much needed and inevitable shut eye, he noticed a bright star close to the moon. He promptly called me in to gaze at the beautiful round moon and pointed out what he insisted was a planet. He quoted a library book to defend his theory, and his face glowed with excitement. His overly-tired enthusiasm was contagious, so, although I admit I was skeptical, I checked online to find out which planet Michael might be seeing through the magical portal of his bedroom window. Here's what I found:

Apparently it's Saturn. Doubt no more, Daddy, doubt no more.

On a date

We had a Saturday date this week. We generally don't like Saturday, but that's how it is this week. We start with dinner at Hemingway's (that's where we went for graduation.)

We then hung out at Barnes & Noble for a while poring over just the right atlas.

We tackled our share of red lights,

then finally decided that Applebee's was The best choice for dessert. It was adequate, which means you probably shouldn't mention it to Liz; she was quite disappointed.

A quiet afternoon

The boys were up quite early this morning--before 6 I believe, so I knew it would be a long day.  But I got lucky and Jacob was invited to play with a friend, who even came and got him!  And then Joshua fell asleep on the day bed waiting for me to finish checking my e-mail.  Needless to say he was not really patiently waiting for me to finish, so when he crashed I was less than surprised.  Michael had fun playing with a friend this afternoon after doing some school.  His friend goes to his dad's house on Friday afternoons, so I try to let him play a little earlier--social time is good!  So, here I am in a quiet a house.  What should I do now?  Maybe I'll clean!  HaHa!  Sadly I may actually do that.  I'm just no fun at all am I?  (You don't have to answer that.)

Where Daddy works

I spend so much time in this room I thought it only appropriate that it be immortalized in our family history somewhere. This is the room in which I teach my private lessons, all twenty four of them. Yes, that means I spend at least twelve hours every week in this cement room. You'll notice the space heater in the lower right- no heat or air conditioning here! I actually thought about moving my office up here, but it's a horrible space overall. The piano, however, is the best one on campus, and I'm glad I have it for lessons.
