There is a young pianists competition every year, but we have never thought to put any of our boys in until this year when Joshua was determined to enter. We had the usual conversations about not possibly not winning and just doing our best. Joshua seemed ok with all of that and was even determined to learn a new song for the event.
After arriving for the competition we warmed up, and Joshua commented on how much nicer the piano was. It was fun to play on a really nice piano that doesn't have sticky keys. Then, we went into the judging room. The judge stays behind a curtain, so he/she cannot see the contestant. With them hidden we were all able to go in and watch, so it was a fun family event. Here is a video of his performance. Joshua jumped right in and started before I even had a chance to start recording, so I missed just a little beginning.
This afternoon we learned that Joshua did win in his age group, so he gets to perform at the next Music Mornings which will be on the Orpheum stage. It is probably the best piano he will ever get to perform on, so it will be a great experience. Way to go Joshua!
