Family Home Evening!

We have a new Family Home Evening chart. It's practically a piece of art in our home, and I think we're about 10 years late on adding it to our Home

Just a general update

I realized that we haven't blogged in quite a while, so I thought it was time to fix that. Ever since we returned from our summer of travels we have just been happy to get back to normal. The school year started and it has been great! I learned how much we all enjoy a little structure in our lives.

This school year has been a fun one so far. The boys are playing soccer for the Y again and loving it! I am amazed by how well they are doing. I decided to say Joshua is in 2nd grade, os they can play on the same team and do not regret my decision. It is nice to only go to one practice and one game each week. And they seem to do well together. They are also doing swimming lessons and I would be in trouble with Michael if I didn't tell you that he is now working with the big boys. They grow up so quickly!

Also, during this school year I have learned that I know very little. We have been studying anatomy and some US history. I'm hoping to find some time to take the boys to Philadelphia and Washington DC to see the places where our country was founded.

Michael is learning how to add fractions which is very exciting--I know you are all jealous that you don't get to do fractions with us.

I guess I haven't said anything about Jacob . . . Jacob really wants to learn to read, so we are working on learning the last few letters along with the sounds that go with him. After I get my Hooked on Phonics back next month we should be ready to put those sounds together and learn to read! I am excited that his is ready. It is funny that while he is only 4 his brothers all learned to read at the age of 3, so he seems behind but isn't really. It is all very strange in my mind. He also loves doing his math and gets very frustrated if we are doing school time and I cannot just work one on one with him or if he feels left out from what we are doing. He is just the cutest!

Oh, I just remembered that Michael had his first Pinewood Derby. I am afraid that we didn't take any pictures but if I find one I will post it. He came in second place--I was very impressed with him and his dad! Michael had a blast running his car down the track over and over again. It was a fun night.

While we haven't gone on any trips in awhile--no complaints--we did get to go to the zoo yesterday. We met several other homeschool families there and had a great time. We did a photo scavenger hunt which was a blast! We had to be a little creative with a couple of them but we did manage to find them all. We also had some of the kids do presentations on animals that could be found at the zoo. Michael did one on the Red Wolf and did a pretty good job. I was proud of him. We have been learning to write reports this year and it has been fun. Any time we learn about something new they ask if they can do a report on it. I think they just like to do research online but I can't complain about that either. :)

Well, I guess all I can say is that life is good and we are just enjoying every day of it!
